    When shopping becomes an indulgence.

It’s just a green scarf. A nice pleated scarf that will define her. Shallow but true. Put a spring to her walk, for that job interview. Even if she’s just another Manhattan chick. If only life’s as uncomplicated as a designer filled closet. Chic like camouflage, empty as a shell. A spree that’s plastic fantastic sends her spinning. Shopaholics anonymous, she comes.

Swaggering, the girl writes a feature that could save her soul. As believable as some line about a cashmere scarf. Her pocket book busted on credit. Frivolity hitched high like a frou frou bridesmaid dress.

hysteria-gucci-bag-e28093-gucci-hysteria-bag
Gucci launched Gucci Bag in 2008 and soon it became the focus of Gucci fans. The luscious leather is as sumptuous as anything I have felt, in fact so soft that I would give anything to turn it into a pillow (or even better a blanket). And while leather versions have my attention, my undivided attention was long ago lost to the Gucci Crocodile Hysteria Bag. But since the $37,500 price tag is much more wisely saved going towards a down payment on a house, I am left loving the Gucci Small Hysteria Bag is sultry magenta. The leather is slightly gathered at the top but the overall shape is slouchy. The double handles feature the metal Gucci crest detailing, which does stand out but is alluring in its own right. There is a detachable shoulder strap, but when worn the top of the bag folds over and gives a more casual look. The inside features a zip, cell phone, and PDA pocket, all necessities for 2008. The colorful option will be perfect for fall and winter.

I sort of fell off the radar – I have been on a finishing kick lately! And it was my birthday! I turned 26 and all of my friends came out for dinner! It was the best birthday ever! We went to Jaleo and it was awesome. I also drank close to an entire pitcher of sangria, and had my very first hangover the next day. That wasn’t so fun.

I have so many knit-things to tell you about! Let’s start with my favorite…
Burberry Scarf

Pattern: Quivik Webs, by Gayle Roehm, Interweave Knits Holiday 2007

Yarn: Karabella Supercashmere Fine, 2 balls; color 87

Needles: US 5 Addi Lace

Time: One month – December 2007. I was pinning it out on the floor to block at 11 pm on the 31st. Par-tay!

Size: I went with the “wide” scarf – 5 peaks. It blocked to 8 inches x 72 inches. Just draped around my neck it hangs to my knees, and doubled over it hangs just to my waist.

Notes:

  • That’s a lot of garter stitch. Don’t get me wrong, I love the look of garter lace more than stockinette, because of the lack of curling (hate the curling!) but it’s a lot of garter stitch. A lot. I was making deals with myself to finish it up at the end. At least all the orenburg style things I have in the queue have a border, so there will be something going on in there.
  • I think this blog post was the most useful thing I came across. (Me, I wouldn’t have said “there’s a 5 stitch garter border in this part of the scarf” if that blasted row 4 didn’t have a 5 stitch border!)
  • Supercashmere Fine is fiiiiine. I must find another scarf pattern so I can use this! I know, I usually like to try different yarns, but I don’t care! It was lovely to work with.
  • Lace is fun! The knitting was just so so, but watching it open up when blocking was amazing. This has totally rekindled my flame for my long forgotten Mountain Stream Scarf! The Faux Russian Stole! Orenburg Style Scarf [pdf]!

I wore it all day, just to show it off to people.

I used almost every single T-pin I own, pinning it down about every half inch (string blocking is great, but it still pulled in all narrow in the middle).

Fake blocking board – checked fabric and some old towels. The scarf comes in right at 6 feet long, and alas my checkerboard fabric was only 3 feet long. So out came the scissors and in half with the fabric! I I think 1 yard cost me something like $2, so if I find myself in pinch without big square, I can always go get a new section, and have this to block scarves. It also causes a headache something fierce when you stare at it for too long

  • wide: around 12 inch ( just my estimate )
  • length: 1 “depa “
  • alhough this scarf is a bit wide than the previous TR11 and TR12, it still can be worn multimways too. Wear it as a bandana…and you already look like bohemian gypsy girl!. And if you folded it up few times…it still can be worn as belt, or tie around your neck or to jazz up your handbag!!
  • for the scarf wearer( lilit2 style, I dont think it can be worn that way..unless you want to cover it with a lil bit of black anak tudung..then you are good to go. The black anak tudung goes nicely with this carf as it has the black background…and it wont be that obvious other piece of scarf)
  • price: RM 50 ( plus postage )
Dear all,
I know my price for the scarf is a lil bit higher than what you can get in Malaysia..but believe it or not…the price I’m paying now is almost the same as in malaysia..plus..i have to include the postage price in it…so i hope you understand.

Let us have a look at this picture from Witchy woos showing the menz trying to intimidate us on the RTN march. Well it felt intimidating for me anyway. I looked at them with all of their loud bravado and thought fucking hell they look like a bunch of predators. They have seen their quarry and boy would they like to push them around a bit. Note man on the right giving the OMG erect penis gesture, you know that one when they hold the biceps of one arm and with clenched fist, to simulate the glans penis I presume and raise it to the air with Oooo noises. Lips curled underneath the nose looking very attractive may I add. Alternatively, how about Mr stripy number in the middle, poised like a mannequin gaily waving to the crowd. Yoo hoo girlies he shrilled. Oh dear what is Burberry scarf trying to do? Moreover, he in front demonstrating aforementioned attractive lip/nose curls. Lastly, there is Mr Panic “haway divvint be teking me picture like, wor lass might see”* I don’t know – what can you see or hear.* Geordie for “do not take my picture as my partner may some how see it”

Goodness me. These are meant to be a part of civilised humanity? My one-year-old is more civilised when he’s straining to poop. *rolls eyes*

I see many penis-popping opportunities – but then they would be too drunk to feel any pain – shame – the irony is, if they were sober they would not be putting on the baboon bravado antics in the first place with all that “we’re so brave and superior we’re drunk, you’re women, look at us with all our mates” – little realising that gobby females with all their mates too – oh – what waas that I detected?? FEar, then confusion, then sexual tension? Yes, penis popping next time for real – drunk or not (meaning us and them, either or). On your “to-take”list next time, easily concealed pins or pens for a bit of penis popping partying! Yay!

  3. on November 30, 2006 at 7:17 pm Lya Kahlo

I think they’re trying to be threatening, but come off looking like a bunch of sweaty, greasey, frumpy morons.

Of course I wasn’t there. Being in front of them would have felt much different, I imagine.

  4. on November 30, 2006 at 7:34 pm stormcloud

Getting drunk does not change a person’s personality, ‘it’ has to be there in the first place.
The fact that these blokes behaved this way is only an exaggerated form of behaviour, not a different or new one.
ie- they are still they same misogynist scum when sober.

    Cretins.

  7. on December 1, 2006 at 11:53 am Grace

I’d say you’re right fannyblood! And even worse they’d probably argue til they’re blue in the face (an improvement I feel) that they are but then if you pointed out to them that having sex with someone who is so drunk she/he doesn’t know what they’re saying yes to (if that) is rape and a bunch of guys having sex with the same girl one after the other at a party while she’s too drunk to get up or she’s passed out is rape they’d probably like to argue again that thats not rape.

Reminds me of a couple of things – that moron who seemed to think Sparkle had a DV fixation and said that his heart went out to those women who were victims of DV who DIDN’T DESERVE IT (paraphrasing) – wouldn’t surprise me if he was in that crowd!

and the other thing i’m reminded of is a episode of The OC from Season 3 when Marissa sees some guys at a party getting this girl who was a real bitch to her drunk and putting something in her drink and then they lead her outside and Marissa followed to find her and managed to force her way through to the van where the girl was lying half naked passout in the back and one of the guys says ‘we were just having a bit of fun’ – then Marissa ran home and cried to her mum even though she was pissed off with her because she was so horrified – i.e. men being bastards and women sticking together and putting their differences aside in the face of violence.

A very made up and glamourised for TV example but still…

You know I just had a thought; we could have RTN cultural exchanges. I’ll come next year and won’t be upset at all when those Geordie hooligans yell insults. All that slag would have been totally lost on me. I’d a-bin just tootling along, thinking {Wa? oh never mind…}. I wouldn’t even know I’d been insulted.

Sounds like it was a very successful march. I loved seeing the pix and hoping I might recognize someone … somehow.

And then, well, Trafalgar Square. Wow.

  9. on December 2, 2006 at 8:12 am sparklematrix

    Hi, pony
We don’t a need exchange I saw somewhere that it was -41 up your neck of the woods. Just come across to the UK with some waterproofs. Those hoolies were not Geordies (that’s my region and usually reserved for football events) these were your ‘southerners’ but yes great event.

    Silly boys

  10. on December 3, 2006 at 1:45 am Pony

Yes minus 41. Could I come as a care package? Seriously would have loved to have been there. Our RTN is called Take Back the Night and happens in March. Gee I wonder why? :)

Next week, Wednesday Dec 6 is the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, when “enraged gunman” Marc Lepine held hostage and murdered 14 women engineering students at Ecole Polytechnique screaming that he “hated feminists”. I’ll be out with a candle that night.

Although he specifically targeted and voiced that it was feminists he hated, most media simply said he was one lone person who was insane. Not a problem because he died too.

Some time before that, a couple years, at another university engineering department, the engineering students newsletter published a long article about how to penetrate a child. Hard to believe but they fought it as freedom of speech.

It is conspicuous by it’s absence the way the press reports (or not) the gender-specificity of crimes. Happens all the time doesn’t it?

I have not looked at the links yet – will do when not feeling so angry.

  12. on December 3, 2006 at 10:14 am sparklematrix

Pony that is horrible – awfull. All of it.
Judging by some of the (unpublished) comments that I get on here there is nothing “lone” about it all. There was other incidents that happened post rally that I have not mentioned, believe me these people can’t all be “insane”

  13. on December 3, 2006 at 10:27 am sparklematrix

Prof the gender-specificity of these crimes is ignored for the media is truly a patriarchal mouthpiece. The film I saw “Born in flames” at the feminist film fest covered this aspect of selective media reporting in a hilarious fashion. In a weird way it was nice to have a chuckle about the pathetic attempts the media stoop to in misrepresenting what really happens, and It is so blatant that they must think we are stupid – no not stupid maybe dangerous BOO!

  14. on December 3, 2006 at 10:26 pm sparklematrix

    “Cretins” said SE
    Simple and to the point!

(Though nothing against children born with an under active thyroid gland – horrible label to give to a medical condition anyway)

Darn it! I wish I could have gone (the only time I wish I wasn’t Northern). Really these men are not doing their gender any favours, they’re intimidating a group who a campaigning against women from intimidation.

  16. on December 8, 2006 at 12:56 am charliegrrl

Those men were pigs. They enraged me. As Bea said, it was as if we were looking at a bunch of rapists.

  17. on December 8, 2006 at 1:10 am sparklematrix

Yes they did Charliegrrl, entitled little bastards that were not calling the shots – for once!

  18. on December 11, 2006 at 1:42 pm CoolAunt

That photo could be used as birth control. Frame it, place it on the bedside table where you can’t miss seeing it when lying in bed…and Voila! No fear of becoming pregnant because the view makes sex with a man an impossibility.

Photo doubles as a pro-choice tool.

You could also use it to as a poster for advertising vasectomies
