b>The Great Things About Photography by Francesca Black

Are you thinking about taking up the hobby of photography? Many who have already discovered this exciting and fulfilling hobby can tell you the top ten reasons why photography is so great. Maybe you will be captivated by this compelling and diverse art as well.

1. The Challenge of Getting the Perfect Picture

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Sometimes a hundred shots have to be taken and you have to try for several days to get just the picture you want. An individual must have patience, but at the end of the day a great sense of accomplishment is felt from capturing the best part.

2. Tell A Story

From beginning to end of a snowball fight, with people throwing their first snowball and eventually rolling in the snow and then dusting off, you can see the event and it tells the story of friendship, fun and joy of life. Looking at pictures of an old family farm from its humble beginnings to the growth and increase over a hundred years it tells a story of family, hard work and sacrifice. Everyone has a story, photos can share that story and bring it to life.

3. Express Individuality

A photographer subject matter will reflect their interests, likes and preferences. A photo can also reflect the individuality of a subject. The clothes they choose to wear and the location they want the pictures shot all show who they are and their personality.

4. Joy and Laughter Increase

Anyone who looks at their first grade picture can attest to this fact. What is more fun than looking back at your younger years or seeing the awkwardness of adolescence? In your later years of life, seeing a picture of your family working or playing together warms your heart and lets you remember good times and better health. A photo lets us travel over the decades and brings back moments that make us laugh and carries us through the hard times.

5. See Things Truly As They Are

Somethings are so perfect- the petals of a flower, the height of a Redwood, the still calm of the lake at dawn. They draw you in to the grace of nature and life in purity and simplicity. The sweet smile of a child reflects the goodness of life and all the hope for what we can become and achieve. This is what life is and who we are in it.

6. Solitude of the Dark Room

The magical atmosphere of the dark room leads you to discover the potential of the photograph. Lightness, darkness, shadows all are in the control of the photographer. It is a work done alone with your ideas and skills combined to bring out the story of the photo before you.

7. Understand the Emotions of Others

As you look over the events of history and witness the faces of those who endured the depression or see victims of the Holocaust you can see in their eyes what they have endured. Their faces portray their hearts and hurts and although you were not there, you understand what they carry with them a little more.

8. A Gift to Others of Their Most Precious Moments

After the couple returns from the honeymoon one of the first priorities is to get the wedding photos. One of the happiest days of their lives is recorded forever. When someone does something for you that you can’t do for yourself you feel indebted and forever grateful. It is a special gift to give someone their special memories and most cherished events.

9. Once You Capture a Moment You Can Display It

From the famous to the personal, photographs reveal lives of people. Some are placed in history books, some on the walls of a museum and some in the home. When they are displayed they are able to reach into the lives of others and stir emotion and thought. Photos are meant to be shared and seen.

10. The Only Way You Can Freeze Time

A photo is a moment frozen in time for a person to enjoy and remember whenever they want. The look, the expression, the emotion only happen for an instant. Although someone might carry it in their heart, with time the memory fades. If a photo is taken a child is able to see the happiness of their parents on their wedding day, a parent can see how small their child was the day they brought them home for the first time and all the years after as they grew to adulthood. All the birthdays, first days of school, vacations and friends can be captured and with you always. Time and space do not take a loved one from us when we can see them and the moments we share together, always.

While we would hope that one’s wedding day would be perfect in every way, there are bound to be a few snags here and there. Your maid-of-honor gets a blister from her new high heels, one of your bridesmaids comes down with a headache due to a few too many glasses of wine at the rehearsal dinner the night before, and another bridesmaid dribbles a bit of her shrimp cocktail sauce on her mint colored dress. Thankfully, you thought ahead and prepared a cute survival kit for them.

Aspirin, band-aids, spot remover, breath mints and tissues are all good items to include to help your maids through the long day, so they can focus on what really matters: you and your groom.

Jillian came up with this cute idea you can make WAY ahead of time and pass out to your ladies before the wedding.

All you have to do is create a label (or use our templates), print, cut it out, fill your cellophane bag and staple the label over the top. Sooo easy.

Have a fun weekend everyone. We’re working on a bunch of good posts for next week.

Getting married used to be a simple task – find the right man, ask for your parents’ approval, wear mom’s wedding gown, and walk down the aisle. Now, it’s a little more complicated, and of course, there’s no way you’re wearing what mom had worn. It’s a little outdated. Your wedding dress should feature the latest in wedding gown styles. If you can’t find the gown of your dreams, don’t fret, that’s just the proverbial tip of the iceberg. There’s more where that came from.

White? After Labor Day?

To wear white on your wedding day is your right, but it’s also your choice. With a wedding dress, the possibilities are endless. White, off-white, or white with trimmings, you can find it if you know where to look. Bear in mind that everyone has different body types, and different tastes. Take the time to look for the wedding dress of your dreams, try it on, and see if it works for you. You don’t simply need to imagine if the material will fall the right way, you need to actually see it. Neither should you worry about the fit because alterations can be made at your convenience. The gown you want is waiting for you.

The Total Package

Since you’re not walking down that aisle alone, make a stunning entrance and dress your bridesmaids in beautiful bridesmaid dresses. Get rid of the notion that bridesmaids’ dresses are horrible fashion statements, and hear the words “exquisite” instead. It can be sweet and simple, classy and elegant, or sexy and stylish. It could be a full gown, a mini dress, or anything in between. It’s your choice and they will love you for it. You can also include your bridesmaids in the decision making process to make sure that everyone’s happy. After all, you’re not the only who should look good on your wedding day.

Now imagine the awed silence as you walk in with your own wedding dress, be it a form-fitting, strapless number from Alfred Sung, a daring corseted gown from the My Lady collection, a wonderful ruffled and girlish Tulipia dress, or an elegant classic from Mori Lee. If you’re a stickler for details, you might as well find the right cake among the many wedding cakes in Toronto to get everything coordinated. Naturally, you can’t forget your shoes, makeup, and hairstyle.

The Million Dollar Look

You should have a look to go for, but not necessarily spend a lot for it. There are many shops offering dresses at reasonable prices and discounts. You don’t have to make that guesstimate on how much to spend, and you don’t have to compromise on the quality, not just for you, but for your whole entourage, no matter what the color motif or the time of day you’re having your wedding. It’s not going to be easy. But it’ll be worth it. After all, you must only have the best on your wedding day – wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses, cakes, accessories and all!

Choosing Your Wedding Lingerie by megan

All the details that a bride needs to worry about to make her wedding day as special and memorable as possible takes a lot of time and consideration. But among all these fine details, you don’t want to forget about that special wedding night and picking the right wedding lingerie should be one of the bride’s top priorities. If you’re in the wedding party, and are taking part in planning the bridal shower, consider making it into a lingerie bridal shower. Most women have been dreaming about their wedding day since they were little girls, and for some, their whole lives have been leading up to their wedding night. You can help make it as special as she is imagining it to be by giving a wedding lingerie bridal shower.

The bridal shower is an important part of the wedding, and turning it into a lingerie bridal shower can make it so much fun. If the bride is more conservative, you may to want to plan the party around a girl’s night in, with everyone bringing a gift of wedding lingerie for the bride to consider wearing during her first night as husband and wife. If the bride is more on the wild side, you may want to consider a night on the town, maybe with a limo escorting you around. Everyone can bring wedding lingerie as a gift to this type of shower as well, and maybe sex toys or other fun treats that the couple and experiment with as well. Be sure that whatever type of lingerie bridal shower you choose, it corresponds with the bride’s tastes; you don’t want to buy her wedding lingerie with crotch-less panties if she’s on the conservative side.

Some good ideas to keep in mind when picking out wedding lingerie for the bride are her favorite colors, styles you see the bride often wearing, as well as the likes and dislikes of the groom. Think of the types of things the couple likes to do together and if it seems that the bride would enjoy lacy, baby doll type lingerie, or more sexy, risqué wedding lingerie. Since a bride and grooms wedding night is going to be possibly one of the most important nights of their marriage, choosing the right wedding lingerie isn’t only important for the bride, but for the groom as well. The bride may like her groom to wear silk boxers or something a little more wild. Your local adult stores will carry a number of options for the groom, as well as a wide array of choices for sexy wedding lingerie; and if the couple strikes you as the type, many other fun sex toys they may find fun.

Remember, if you’re the bride, or choosing the lingerie for the bride, be sure to take the time necessary to pick out the perfect wedding lingerie to add the perfect touches to an amazing wedding night. Relish in the tiny details of planning the wedding and the wedding nigh, it will a night to remember. The perfect, sexy wedding lingerie is only the icing on the cake, but a nice addition indeed.

Wedding stationery and invitations for the most wonderful wedding by Rick Martin

The success of a great wedding depends on how you deal with choosing the appropriate wedding stationery. It’s good for you to realize that wedding invitations are very important, because they are the first thing your guests will see and they are meant to tell them everything about the way you are going to organize your wedding party. We offer you our services because we know that we are able to make things easier. Our experienced designers have created original wedding stationery meant to suit your preferences and style.

First, you have to know that choosing your wedding invitations means choosing the style and the elements that characterize you best as a couple. Classic or traditional, funny or formal, we have available all kinds of wedding invitations. You can choose different kinds of prints, depending on what you want to transmit. If you like flowers, we have special illustrations with lilies, roses, hibiscus, iris, lotus, daises and many others. However, it is preferable that the flower in the invitation be the same with the one on your bouquet.

If you want a simpler touch, you may choose our elegant blank wedding invitations that have one classic symbol as flowers, hearts, rings, stars or bells. You can also decide for this one if you want to print them yourselves with a more representative illustration as a photo of you two, or anything else you think fits best for the occasion.

Paying attention to the color of your wedding invitations is another thing you have to consider with attention. This is because only attention to detail will transform your wedding in the best event of the year. Invitations have to match with the color of all the decorations from your wedding party. It is also necessary to match the entire wedding stationery you will decide to buy with the color of the invitations.

For a successful wedding, you should also think about other items of wedding stationery such as engagement announcements, save-the-date cards, programs, menu cards, seating cards and other decorative accents as boxes and bags, ribbons or personalized items. This will make a big difference, because your wedding will become a stylish event, where everyone you invite will want to come. However, all of these have to match with your wedding invitations. The color has to be the same, but not only. The wedding stationery should also include the same representative symbols and elements.

You may personalize all of our wedding stationery in any manner you think appropriate or in any manner suiting your taste. For example, a bomboniere box as a gift for your guests could have your name printed on top. It is a great sign of appreciation for those who have chosen to come to your wedding. Moreover, if they will keep the object they will also know from who it is.

As you can see, wedding stationery means paying great attention to details. Let us be the ones to help you doing that. This way your work will be easier and you will also be able to eliminate the stress before the big day. Our experience in dealing with weddings will surely represent a great help.

In the case where you want to have a beautiful wedding, our services will make sure to achieve that. You can have a look at the wedding invitations we offer and you can see the other wedding stationery items that we created for special moments like this one.

Becki Newton: We're picking up what you're putting down.

We learned all kinds of interesting things at Phillip Lim’s show Wednesday afternoon at the tent: (1) Kayne West owns, and wears, what appears to be parts of a marching-band uniform. (2) He’s getting pretty cozy with Amber Rose, the model he’s been squiring around this week. Clearly, their shared love of wacky eyewear means forever. (3) Rachel Bilson is engaged! (This final news thanks to an US Weekly reporter we bonded with while we were all waiting for Kanye to make his grand entrance.)

And grand it was. The runway was cleared. The lights were down. The music was silenced. The smoke machine was turned on (seriously). And we all sat quietly for a good five minutes before Kanye swanned out from backstage to take his seat, front and center, along with what seemed like 60 or 70 dudes, but what was probably only 3. Say what you will about Kanye. Dude seems to LOVE Fashion Week. It’s so refreshing to see someone who is clearly enjoying himself rather than complaining about what a slog it is to be ferried from front row to front row with only free Champagne and designer gifts to sustain him.

Also in the front row — and not complaining whatsoever — was Ugly Betty‘s Becki Newton, who looked very smart in a beaded dress and a slim leather jacket. She was smack in the middle of Anne "Stylista" Slowey and Elle EIC Robbie Myers. Do we smell a cover? Down the row from Becki was Tim Burton’s former flame Lisa Marie, who looked pretty if a bit overdressed in a black strapless cocktail dress and an updo, and across the runway were Fashion Week regulars Leigh Lezark — looking as wan as ever and engrossed in a magazine — and Joy Bryant, who has become so ubiquitous that we are starting to suspect she might actually be living at Bryant Park. Joy, you can bunk with us if things are really that bad. Seriously. We’ll brush each other’s hair and lip-synch into hairbrushes. It’ll be fun.

Faux Fashion Week for Normal People Threatens Real Fashion Week’s Exclusivity

Photo: Getty Images

You know times are rough when people start considering the possibility of selling tickets to Fashion Week — as in, for normal people. WWD asked designers back in February if they’d consider doing this to make money and heighten publicity, since the paper’s informal poll of 105 women on New York streets revealed they’d pay, on average, $160 per seat. Which is pretty ridiculous if you ask us, since fashion shows only last ten minutes. Anyway, designers like Diane Von Furstenberg and Michael Kors said this was a terrible idea, since their customers would be confused by seeing clothes they wouldn’t be able to buy for six months. (Because it’s not as though they won’t see them in fashion magazines eons before they’d buy them.) We don’t think that’s the only reason designers wouldn’t want normal people at their shows. Fashion Week, among its many purposes, is a masturbatory exercise for the editors, buyers, society people, celebrities, and others in the industry who attend to feel exclusive, important, and on the inside of a very special, very elusive (but not really) world. We don’t presume to be immune to this allure and wouldn’t dream of denying, say, the warm fuzzies we felt when we sat right behind Kanye West’s baby mullet at the fall 2009 shows. Designers are charged with preserving the sanctity of this "in"-ness.

But all of that could be in danger. Because starting in September, a new group billing itself as the New York Fashion Week Organization plans to sell tickets to fashion shows staged at Madison Square Garden’s theater venue. Proceeds from the ticket sales will benefit the Garden of Dreams charity that helps children in crisis. So anyone who can pay the ticket price — which has not yet been set — can go see a fashion show. In Madison Square Garden. How glam! The organization is not affiliated with IMG, which puts on the real Fashion Week that normal people aren’t able to attend. They are currently soliciting young designers to participate in the shows (if you’re interested, send a portfolio and tear sheets to NYFW at MSG, 2 Penn Plaza, Suite 1500). According to a press release about the project, "participation fees are kept to an absolute minimum." So you’ll have to pay to partake, but hey! No one said charity was recession friendly.

So who knows who will wind up showing at this thing. We’re having a hard time imagining some of our favorite young designers — Ohne Titel, Cushnie et Ochs, Julian Louie — signing on to present in the same venue as the circus. But we could be wrong.

All throughout the week, the owners of Bird, Odin, Den, and Pas de Deux will be telling us what they liked at the collections. Today’s installment is by the Den/Odin/Pas de Deux boys, Eddy Chai and Paul Birardi. So far, they like Robert Geller’s blending of American sportswear with dark edginess, Duckie Brown’s fun pom-poms, and Richard Chai’s detailing. Find out what else they liked.

Robert Geller
While we have a fondness for the American work/sportswear movement that has dominated men’s collections, we also have a penchant for things with a little edge. As always, Robert Geller has produced another beautiful collection in this vein. His coats and jackets are always his strength, and there were plenty of parkas (some with faux-fur-trim details) that would frame and complement any outfit underneath it. The black wool blazers with contrasting gray cuffs were sharp and went well with the dark tweed cropped jackets that offered subtle texture. The wool drawstring pants were elegant without being rigid, and all the gradient button-downs offered some romanticism and modernity to Robert’s strong edge.

Duckie Brown
This duo is known for its quirkiness and humor, which was evident with the oversize pom-pom hats and ski masks the models wore. But if you strip those layers and look at the body of the collection, you will see the work of true artisans designing clothes in a masculine and powerful way. The cement waxed-cotton-canvas peacoat had a comfortable but tailored fit — natural creasing will just add character to it over time. There was also a black cashmere long coat with hidden buttons that couldn’t have been cut any sharper. And we can’t resist mentioning the fluorescent-orange waxed-cotton-canvas anorak that had enough pop to be branded in one’s mind without being too obscene.

Richard Chai
There was definitely a utilitarian inspiration to the collection, but it was modernized with boiled wools, overdyed plaids, and a play on proportions. He used his signature subtle-arc details in the clothing, but it was the placement of zippers and trim that might be forging a new look for his menswear. The boiled-wool blazer with contrast-trim lapel and cuff details and zip pockets was a particular favorite of ours, paired with the plaid button-down and front-seam wool pants. It embodied a utilitarian yet fashionable balance. The tuxedo was especially chic, and versatile enough to be worn outside of just a formal event. The long, textured wool cardigans and double-breasted knits with asymmetric zippers offered a fresh approach to knitwear.

Watch a slideshow of the Richard Chai collection.

Coco Rocha and Mischa Barton at Miss Sixty.

Coco Rocha and Mischa Barton at Miss Sixty.Photo: Imaxtree

The last time we saw Mischa Barton, it was in LAX on Thursday, frowning in an understandable funk at our six-hours-delayed flight and picking at her gnarled hair extensions. What a difference a few days and some tender loving flashbulbs make: Mischa rolled into Miss Sixty on Sunday looking considerably less crabby, smiled gamely for the press … and picked at her gnarled hair extensions. Ah well, it was too much to expect a miracle; we suspect the day she stops tugging at those things is the day her agent straps her to a chair and cuts them free.

Barton acted totally unfazed by the instant media frenzy that kicked up when she sauntered out from backstage. The woman next to us cracked that, judging from the melée, she “thought it was Jesus Christ down there.” As far as we know, Mischa can’t walk on water, but she still basked in the glow of the lenses, which makes sense when you consider that attending Miss Sixty is the biggest job she’s held down in a while. She had on a tight leather off-the-shoulder dress reminiscent of the wardrobe from an eighties hair-metal video — we actually caught her adjusting her boob in it more than once. Model Coco Rocha, instantly visible thanks to her flame-colored hair, hopped up to hug Mischa, then ditched her end-of-row spot so they could sit together. Actresses Kristen Bell and Minka Kelly rounded out the celeb contingent, the former in bell-bottoms and the latter looking like we feel when we’re trying our best to maintain good posture and hating every second of it. They got along like a house on fire, gossiping right until the lights dimmed. (We imagine it was all about how cracked-out Bell’s ex-show Heroes is now.)

But as usual, the star of the Miss Sixty show — always one of our favorites for its sheer audacity — was the guests’ expressions. Bell attempted a poker face, but with a glimpse of what we SWEAR were wedgie-riffic black satin granny-panties, she was hard-pressed to restrain her dwindling faith in humankind.

The best, though, was Coco. Fellow top-tier model Jessica Stam walked in the show, and during both of her two struts, Coco waited until Stam was heading back up the runway — her face safely hidden from the photographers — to try and make her break face. Coco would erupt into giggles, and without fail Stammy bit her lip, snickered, and looked at her feet. Considering Stam wore at one point a strapless jumpsuit that was essentially the world’s highest-waisted pair of jeans, we like to think the unspoken mirth was because Stam was getting paid in free clothes. When Coco pulled the same trick again on the finale walk, Stam smirked and ever-so-briefly stuck out her tongue. And a thousand model fanfics were born.
